The Academy

A fire ground, live-fire props, a smoke house, breathing apparatus and training halls — all on one site at Jubail Industrial City.

The fire ground

An open concrete apron built for one purpose: putting a crew in front of a fire they have to work. It is laid out so props can run independently, with fixed monitors covering the ground and room to move appliances and lay out hose properly.

Nothing here is shared with an operating plant. The ground is the academy’s own, which is why a course can burn when the programme says it burns.

Live-fire props

The academypiece is a multi-storey steel process rig — stairs, decks and pipework — that can be lit on its upper level and fought from the ground or from the structure itself. Around it sit tank, vessel and container props.

It is real fire, on plant that looks and behaves like plant. Crews work heat, position and water application the way they would have to on site.

The smoke house

An enclosed structure that can be filled with smoke, for search, orientation and breathing apparatus work in zero visibility.

Breathing apparatus and gear

Turnout gear, breathing apparatus, cylinders and a breathing-air compressor are all held on site, along with hose, branches and rescue equipment.

Charging on site is the part that matters operationally: a course is not limited by how many cylinders came through the gate that morning.

Training halls and classrooms

A tiered lecture theatre for full-cohort sessions, classrooms for standard delivery, and syndicate rooms with round tables for the group work and scenario planning that happens before anyone puts gear on.

The classrooms are on the same site as the ground, minutes from it — theory and practical run in the same day without moving anyone anywhere.

Location

The academy is at Jubail Industrial City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — in the middle of the Kingdom’s petrochemical industry, in the same industrial city as the operations the training is for.

The academy’s working week is Sunday to Thursday.
